Abstract

With the concern for integration in counselling and psychotherapy in the 90's, there is an opportunity for change in the education of counsellors and psychotherapists. Although integration has not proceeded very far, and the focus is upon techniques rather than philosophy and theory, there is the beginning of hope for a single unifying theory. The basis for this theory is the acceptance of the common elements in all the major theories of counselling or psychotherapy. They should be made the focus of the education of counsellors and psychotherapists.

Abstract

In this paper, the author shares some of his discoveries in the processes of touching the inner worlds of other persons. Besides the fact that our inner persons need to be heard, it seems to him that we all have the power to confirm another person's existence by listening to their inner persons. Nevertheless, in the process of the developing relationship, it is important to maintain a safe relationship; to respond with spontaneity right out of heart; to realize that pain is a message to be heard; to be fully real; and to have persistent patience in allowing the other person to grow in his/her own unique way.

Abstract

The purpose of the article was to introduce the integration of Gestalt therapy with art therapy and how it applied to practice. The case presented here was a single session with the female client who had been seen for one and one-half years. The case illustrated the author's personal experience in working with the client's boundary disturbances.

This article is derived from a speech made by Margaret Davis at the 25th Jubilee of the Catholic Marriage Council in Hong Kong in December 1990. Dr. Jack Dominion was the guest speaker. The author gives an account of her personal experience working as an English marriage counsellor in Hong Kong. She discusses models used in marriage counselling, special factors in Hong Kong which cause stress on a marriage, the process and quality of the marriage relationship and two common problems which couples bring to counselling.
