鄉村師範專科學校(1946–1954):香港教師教育史上的重要一頁

鄉村師範專科學校(1946–54)是一九四六年九月香港政府為解決戰後新界鄉村教師嚴重短缺問題而創立的。在一九五一年葛量洪師範專科學校(1951–94;一九六七年改名為葛量洪教育學院)建立以前,鄉師與羅富國師範專科學校(1939–94;一九六七年改名為羅富國教育學院)是當時香港僅有的兩所初等教育師資培訓院校。然而,這所曾為本港基礎教育作出頗大貢獻的師訓機構,卻被包括教育工作者在內的大多數港人所遺忘,學術界也沒有專門的文章去研究、探討它的歷史及貢獻。本文在梳理鄉師發展來龍去脈的基礎上,簡評該校對香港教育的貢獻,以期填補本港師範教育史上的一個研究空白。

Abstract

The Rural Training College (1946–54) was established in September 1946 by the Hong Kong authorities under the governorship of Mark Young to alleviate the growing pressure of providing trained teachers for rural schools in the post-war New Territories. Prior to the establishment of the Grantham Training College (1951–94, renamed Grantham College of Education in 1967) with which it merged in 1954, the RTC was one of the two single-purposed teacher education institutions in Hong Kong, sharing the responsibility of supplying qualified school teachers for the territory with the Northcote Training College (1939–94, renamed Northcote College of Education in 1967) which largely trained school teachers for the urban areas of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. To date, however, there is no single detailed study of this rural teacher's college, an important chapter in the history of Hong Kong teacher education. This paper, by utilizing primary source material and interviewing some former students and teaching staff of the RTC, reconstructs the 8-year history of the College with a focus on its contributions to the school education in Hong Kong.

談香港小學教師對《常用字字形表》的認識

香港教育署語文教育學院在1986年出版了《常用字字形表》,對香港常用字字形提供了規範的標準。筆者利用問卷調查,發現本港不少教師未能完全掌握《常用字字形表》(九七年修訂版)標準字的形體。因此,本文嘗試利用漢字演變的規律去辨析字形,讓教師對《常用字字形表》(九七年修訂版)中的標準字有進一步的認識,由此亦檢視《常用字字形表》(九七年修訂版)中的字形是否須要修訂。

Abstract

The Hong Kong Institute of Language in Education published a popular book entitled Chang Yong Zi Zixingbiao about the standardized forms of common Chinese characters in 1986. A recent survey found that many local Chinese teachers did not agree with the forms of some Chinese characters listed in Chang Yong Zi Zixingbiao. In this light, the aim of this paper is to analyze the forms of some Chinese characters so as to provide those teachers with a better understanding of the forms of Chinese characters listed in Chang Yong Zi Zixingbiao. The analysis also found that the forms of some Chinese characters listed in this book should be revised.

常識科的教學策略

在中小學的課室內,大部分的教學仍然是側重於單向的和被動的學習。為了改善這種情況,小學常識科鼓勵教師採用以學生為中心的啟發式教學,發展學生的理解和思維能力。本文嘗試從建構論的角度,解釋如何透過有意義的學習活動,促進學生積極的參與,從而提高學習的效果和興趣。並以常識科中的一個單元為例,示範如何運用此教學法,幫助他們主動地建立知識和掌握新概念。

Abstract

Inside the primary and secondary classrooms, most teaching still emphasizes direct instruction and passive learning. For the implementation of General Studies of the primary curriculum, teachers are strongly advised to use student-centred teaching strategies that encourage students to learn by thinking and with understanding. By referring to a teaching unit in the General Studies syllabus, this article exemplifies how a constructivist approach can help teachers to design meaningful learning activities that motivate students to construct knowledge and develop conceptual understanding, thus leading to effective and pleasurable learning.
