CUHK Hosts Inaugural “CUHK China Education Conference”

CUHK held the first “CUHK China Education Conference” (CUCEC) on 5-6 December 2025, coinciding with the 60th Anniversary of the Faculty of Education. With the theme “Educational Innovation and Transformation in the AI Era,” the conference brought together over 320 participants, including leading scholars from universities in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and from overseas, as well as K12 school principals, teachers, and education professionals, to discuss cutting-edge developments in educational theory, policy, and practice in the era of artificial intelligence.

Organized by the CUHK Faculty of Education, Hong Kong Institute of Educational Research (HKIER), Department of Curriculum and Instruction, CUHK Faculty of Education Mainland Student Association, and supported by the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, the conference aimed to provide a high-level forum connecting Chinese educational experiences with global research.

In his opening remarks, Professor Fan Xitao, Dean of the Faculty of Education, highlighted the Faculty’s six decades of development and emphasized the importance of balancing technological innovation with humanistic values in education. He expressed the hope that the conference would foster cross-regional and interdisciplinary dialogue and advance forward-looking, practice-oriented educational research.

The conference featured ten keynote speeches by leading scholars from Mainland China and Hong Kong, covering topics such as global education governance, artificial intelligence in teaching and learning, higher education reform, educational big data, teacher professional development, and values education. Over forty symposia and parallel sessions, along with a poster exhibition, showcased over 330 research and practice projects, demonstrating diverse explorations of educational research and teaching practices in the context of artificial intelligence.

At the closing ceremony, Professor Yin Hongbiao, Director of the HKIER, presented a commemorative plaque engraved with the mission of the CUCEC to Professor Lin Yigang, Vice President of Zhejiang Normal University and Dean of the College of Education (College of Teacher Education), symbolizing the ongoing development of the forum. Participants recognized the CUCEC as a valuable opportunity to strengthen collaboration between researchers and professionals, and to situate Chinese educational experiences within a broader international academic context.
